Quote
I had thought this helpful. It is not. I need not look upon it again. When I need to look upon Willie, I will do so in my heart. As is proper. There where he is yet intact and whole. If I could confer with him, I know he would approve; would tell me it is right that I should go, and come back no more. He was such a noble spirit. His heart loved goodness most. So good. Dear little chap. Always knew the right thing to do. And would urge me to do it. I will do it now. Though it is hard. All gifts are temporary. I unwillingly surrender this one. And thank you for it. God. Or world. Whoever it was gave it to me, I humbly thank you, and pray that I did right by him, and may, as I go ahead, continue to do right by him. Love, love, I know what you are.

Spritefather and Selene Interaction
A fan drabble for @clouds-rambles, I hope I characterized Selene right
Without much prompting it's a tad hard to write like this, but I hope it works.
Also I hope you don't mind me mentioning Cael amnesia anon.
(Selene was hanging out with Cael when Venti makes trouble, bringing the night to a close)
(Selene pov)
Yet again, I had to drag Cael's boyfriend out of the bar. This time because he thought someone was insulting his father and punched them, but he was just talking about some mythological person called 'Spritefather'.
I haven't thought about that story in a long time, not since I was a kid. Something about him being able to "use all elements" or something and how he "taught Barbados about freedom", maybe I'll ask Lisa about it.
"Excuse me madam, my father needs to speak to that man you're carrying. Please, hand him to me." I heard a voice from behind me say, the accent was a thick Schneznayan one.
I turned around to meet the person, a woman in an outfit that wouldn't look out of place in a family portrait of old Schneznayan nobility, they also held a vision.
A cryo vision.
I three Venti into a hay pile and summoned my spear, "your a pretty bad liar, LA SIGNORA!"
"No wait! You've got it all w-" I jabbed at her with my spear, using conduct to increase it's power, "I said wait!-"
"I don't bargain with people who hurt my friends!" Hehe, that was a cool line, nice one Selene.
"W-WHAT!? HOW DARE YOU INSINUATE THAT I WOULD HURT MY OWN BROTHER!" The woman gasped and pointed behind me.
I looked back and saw an abyss mage sneaking away with Venti.
"HEY! THAT'S MY BROTHER/BEST FRIEND'S BOYFRIEND!"
The mage noticed and bolted away. We chased it all the way to star conch cliff, where it threw Venti over the edge.
"Haha! Do your worst human! I have already completed my mission! Now without your precious archon, mondstadt will-!"
A tornado of water sprouted up from the sea, then froze in place. From the newly formed spiral of ice rose a cloaked man, and around him were 6 wisps of every element but cryo.
The mage turned around, and were it not for the dendro tendril crushing it's windpipe they would have screamed in horror.
"First you threaten to kill my son," the cloaked man stepped off the spire, the air polarizing itself with electro to form a step, "then you kidnap him while my daughter is trying to retrieve him," another step, this time the air simply pushes him up to form a step, "and now you have followed through on that threat. It tried to," the man took one last, powerful step, to which a geo platform met his feet and lifted him to the hanging abyss mage, "how truly foolish must you be."
He man then lit the tendril on fire, burning the mage like a furby in a campfire.
The man lowered himself down, Venti in his arms, and said, "I'm sorry Barbados, I should have gone to get you myself. Viktoria, what happened?"
Then he noticed me.
"EEEEP!" He shouted as he dropped Venti with a thud.

(3rd person limited, Spritefather pov)
'Oh celestia, a person! No no, keep it together. You love interacting with humans in a controlled manner. This is just as controlled, just...a suprise.' Spritefather thought.
"By Barbados' hairy nostrils! You're the Spritefather!" The human Selene shouted.
Spritefather straightened himself out and cleared his throat, "y-yes, I am. But I am not 'the' Spritefather, I'm just Spritefather. Saying 'the Spritefather' is like calling you 'the Selene'. But now isn't the time for such trivial bickerings," Spritefather gave a gentlemanly bow, "thank you for attempting to rescue my eldest child, and for taking him home everytime he indulges a bit to much on vices."
Viktoria facepalmed, "dad! They aren't supposed to know that!"
"Well why not? They're friends with him, and best friends with his boyfriend. Which by the way I STILL need to meet-" he noticed Selene was seeming kind if pale, "you ok?"
*thud*
"Oh dear."

(3rd person omniscient pov)
(There's no good point to explain this, but they're in a serenitea pot)
Selene woke up in a very confused state, and on a cloaked woman's lap.
"Please do not be alarmed, neither me nor my daughter did anything to you." The woman said.
Selene, in response, punched the woman and scrambled away, "who the abyss are you!?"
"Well I'm not particularly loved by celestia but I'd hardly say I'm abyssal.."
"Father, people here are not as accustomed to the divine as Liyue or Inazuma." The woman from before, who Selene thought was La Signora, said as she approached them with some tea.
"Wait, fa-no, no. Don't do that Selene, it's rude."
The cloaked woman shook her hands to dismiss Selene's concern, "it's fine, however I thank you for your accepting nature. Though it is to be excepted given your personal identity."
"How do you know me?"
"Heh, have you forgotten already? Though I suppose the change in form is not common among you humans. And nonexistent in the way me and the wisps can do."
The woman got up and started twirling, then surrounded themself in elemental power, and when it cleared stood the cloaked man Selene saw in her dream...
*wait*
"That wasn't a dream...holy shit that wasn't a dream! You're the Spritefather-I mean-you're Spritefather! Your real!"
"Indeed I am. I would think everyone in mondstadt believes I'm real, but atleast that leaves less for that misconception."
"What misconception?"
"Ask Barbados, shouldn't be too hard since you two are close."
"Barba-wait Venti is actually Barbados!?
"Oh dear I'm making this worse."
The still unnamed woman sighed and shook her head, "how about we focus on why my dad decided to be a woman? Surely that would be a far more easy thing to understand."
"It's because she likes women, and I don't blame her. World cold and hard, titty warm and soft."
"Dad who taught you that!?"
"You do realize I can hear the lives of all in my home yes?"
"I guess I'm at fault." Selene laughed.
"I will have my revenge upon you for this." The woman responded.
Spritefather chuckled, "oh? And how about you get your revenge over a date. Anastasia."
"F-FATHER!"
"What? She's single, friends to someone who can teach her proper tea ceremonies, and uh....they have....hmmm..." Spritefather was trying to think if what he could say to convince his daughter, "look I just want to see grand kids!"
"FATHER"
"K-KIDS!?"
"Look I'm pushing fifty million! If one of you doesn't get me kids in the next ten million years I'm going to grow grey hair!"
Anastasia starts forming an ice throwing knife, "REBEL'S-"
"Papa, what happen?" Came a childish voice.
Selene gasped, they were looking at probably the cutest thing EVER!
"Oh my ARCHONS! IS THAT A PYROSPRITE!?"
"Yes that's my child Flameo-"
Selene, already having picked up the the baby, "they're so CUTE!"
They hugged the little flame close to their face and nuzzled them, to which Flameo quickly responded to with their own.
"Smell like..." they thought for a moment, "big Bro Bardos!" They flew around Selene excitedly, "friend!"
Spritefather sighed, "Oh dear, now the rest will be coming out. And I just got them to sleep aswell."
It wasn't long before Selene was surrounded by six Sprites.
The Electrosprite landed on her vision and started vibrating happily.
The Geosprite asked, "are you strong!? I think I could be you!"
"Oh I'm sure you could." Selene said to appease the little Sprite as she chuckled chuckled.
The Anemosprite and Pyrosprite flew around her head like children.
The Hydrosprite was inspecting her clothes, "how utterly bourgeois, has my Brother and father been teaching you how to dress? Honestly, the people of mondstadt should learn from the reconnaissance captain of the knights. Now there's a woman who knows how to dress."
"Oh you mean Eula?"
"You know her?"
"Oh yeah, she's invites me to tea every now and then."
"SHE...invites....YOU...out for TEA!?-"
Anastasia puts her hand over the Hydrosprite and tries to hold her back
"Sorry about that," the woman replied, "kids and their crushes."
(Agua, muffled: I'M SIXTEENTH HUNDRED YEARS OLD!)
"Ha-haaa...."
Selene couldn't respond to that as they felt a prick in her spine, causing them to yelp.
A Dendrodsprite slinkied up her back and put it's head on her shoulder, "just sampling...never seen blood like yours...so intertwined with the...divine....yet so distan-"
Spritefather picked up his child, "please forgive Leafy, they're in their...adventurous stage. And their adventure is to learn things. Often things that involve pins and needles."
This was going to be a looong night
_____________________
The next day, Vanessa's tree
Selene yawns and falls on the statue, Venti doing the same. The difference between them is one is hungover and waiting for his boyfriend to take him home after the fifth assassination attempt this week, the other has to deal with the consequences of being loved by children and being there to try and stop the most recent assassination
"Holy shit....this hang over....I thought Decrabain's hailstorms were bad..."
"You shouldn't try watching after Leafy.....but I think half the pains are from Agua's jealousy bites......"
"You think that's bad?.....you should have seen them when they realized Cael and I....were dating....."
"...archons I hope I was never like that as a kid...."
"Oh cherry up you two!" Spritefather said, a bit too loud for the two, "it's a new day and-"
Venti hit his father with a clump of grass using anemo
"YOUNG MAN!-
"Ohheythere'sCaelgottagobye!" The archon said as he ran off.
Spritefather sighed, "he's always like that, running from responsibilities. But he always means up when it counts, so I can only say I'm proud of the man he's become," he thought for a moment, "except for when he turns into a woman for whatever reason, then I'm proud of the woman she's become...you know, after being around single form life for so long stuff like that feels so strange. I mean you humans are born with one form and cant naturally change it. But if you feel it's wrong you'll go through so much trouble just to get close to what us shape changers can get. While to humans it is inspiring purely because of the person's determination to take the form they so deserve, that they were truly meant to have. But for me it's so much more! The human spirit and will is oh so inspiring, but the amount humans go through! So much money, so much time, and in many places simply enduring life! Why even I couldn't get the...uh...transphobia is it?...out of Inazuma!Terribly sorry human language changes so much. Oh and on language! To think that I was there when the first cave man was trying to mimic the grunts of the gods, only to make something so much superior to them to the point that the gods copied THEM! And speaking of copies have you ever heard of the time Dainsleif-" he paused as he saw Selene's bored face, "sorry. One little thing and I start ranting and rave...no, it's info dumping. And I should thank you humans for making that term, and all the other wonder words you've made, and the medical advances. They've helped me understand myself....ah but look at me, rambling on again. You know what? For entertaining my kids the whole night, and listening to an old man's ramblings, I'll give you a boon. Anything you want, if I can get it you shall have it."
Selene thought for a moment. She thought about asking him to bring back her father, but they knew he couldn't raise the dead. She even thought...of her mother, to see her again, but they knew that it wouldn't help. A selfish part of her even wanted someway to reignite her's and Rosaria's relationship, after all that part of her life was, but she knew it would be wrong and that they both agree they just didn't work.
Perhaps just ask for mora? She did need some for a good night's rest, but that felt wasteful. What was one night's rest for what could be a lifetime of amazing power. But maybe it would be wrong to ask for something like power. Ah! She's got it!
"How about a spear? A really powerful one that compliments my powers perfectly! Oh! And make it look really cool!"
Spritefather blinked, then laughed, "well, that's rather simple isn't it? So amazing you humans. You expect them to make something big and/or selfish, like taking control of a country, or killing someone. Yet never once has one of my boons been used for anything bad. Even when they're selfish. Like one time I met a very selfish person who I granted a boon, and all he did with it was ask me to make sure the kids of Inazuma were never hungry. Ah, now that. That was ranting, sorry." Spritefather walked over to the statue's base and knocked three times, "hello Vanessa. It's been a while since I last called you, but I was hoping you could give me a hand? And perhaps a very sturdy branch off your tree?"
"Uhhh-"
A light shown down from the heavens and the ground shook, causing a skeletal hand to rise from the depths.
Selene would have screeched if she weren't so tired, "I'd prefer my weapon to be less...body part-sy."
"Nonsense! Everyone knows that bones make the best weapons! You know why it's called a prototype rancor?! BECAUSE NOONE WANTS TO ACCEPT THAT THE PERFECTED VERSION I, THE INVENTOR, MADE INCLUDES THE SHINBONES OF MITSCHURLS! YOU EVER SEEN A-*ahem*-sorry, rambling."
As he was ranting, a branch handed Spritefather a sturdy branch from the tree.
"Perfect, now a bit of magic and-" the two items blew up in Spritefather's face before reforming into a purple and black spear that ended in a feathery sleeve like pattern that was attached to a sharp blade that looked very much like a hand made into a spear blade. Mainly because it was.
A brilliant light shone down on the Spritefather as he floated up and presented the spear to Selene(mumbled: thanks Venessa)
"SELENE OF MONDSTADT!"
His voice became that of s god's, filled with power and compassion, booming across windrise.
"YOU HAVE SPOKEN YOUR WISH, AND BY MY HONOR AS THE ENTERNAL FATHER, I AM DUTY BOUND TO GRANT IT!"
He leans imup to Selene and whispered to her, "do you like the eternal father moniker? I thought it up myself."
"Oh yeah, 10/10, really keeping with the Inazuman background."
"Thanks."
"TAKE YOUR GRAND BLADE, AND GO FORTH TO CARVE THROWS DESTINY AND TILL YOUR OWN FUTURE!"
Selene took the spear, "uh...thanks?"
"Oh your very welcome. By the way how was that delivery? I've been working on the whole 'I am a powerful being' delivery for a few centuries."
"A bit hard to understand, but overall gets the vibe across. Maybe 8/10? Low seven probably."
"Yeah, I kind of expected that. Wonder how else I could get that effect, you know without the whole can't understand thing."
"Well, I've got teo other immortals to meet. Ones I need to question."
"Ah yes, I'm sure Cael and Barbados have much to answer for to you."
"Yes they do. I don't suppose 'see you around' would be appropriate here?"
"On a sense? It's appropriate. After all I'm your friend now aswell, and I prefer a life without isolation. So...see you round?"
"Sure, see you around."
_____________________
Admittedly didn't know how to end this. I like it but I'm a tad worried I made it to focused on my character and didn't give Selene enough attention.
Regardless I hope you enjoyed it cloud! I really tried to get Selene right. And sorry it took so long, sleep kept getting messed up, and then covid shot+forgetting to hydrate kicked my ass.

What Is Nature Of Mind?
What is the nature of the mind?
Garchen Rinpoche
Milarepa was asked by Nyama Paldarbum, "What is the nature of the mind?"
Milarepa replied and explained its basis abides like space and it is boundless as the sky without center or edge The purpose of practice is to realise the two types of bodhicitta. Our mind is like muddy water. The mind of Buddhas is like clear water. Clear water shares the same nature as muddy water. We need to practice to let the mud clear. When the mind is liberated from concepts, it is empty and pristine and it abides like space. This is what we need to understand from our practice. The basis of mind is the same in Buddhas and sentient beings. It is clear and uncontrived. But we add contrivances to it, like adding mud to water.
The basis abides like space. Buddhas abide in the dharmakaya. Sentient beings are like muddy water and experience suffering. But there is a path to purify our obscurations. This practice is staying in the moment where past thoughts have ceased and future thoughts have not yet arisen. This state is a complete, vast openness. There is no grasping to thoughts as they arise. Even as they do arise, they cannot do any harm, as they then just cease. So we should remain in that state.
What does contrived or fabricated mean? Look at the mind. The one who knows thoughts is our own awareness. As thoughts arise they immediately dissipate. That is great openness. But if we follow thoughts along, then our mind is obscured and becomes contrived or fabricated. As soon as we hold onto a thought like anger, the mind becomes obscured. So we should remain in a state of mindful awareness. As a result one will immediately recognise thoughts as they arise and not grasp at them. Since the cause is uncontrived, so will be the result, and our mind will be purified. This is the uncontrived state of mahamudra.
What does mahamudra mean? The first word is "chag." It represents the unsurpassed qualities of the Buddha. Where is the Buddha? You cannot find the Buddha outside, only inside. It is the mind's unity of clarity and emptiness. We give this mind the name of Buddha. "Chag" means devotion to my mind, which has the nature of Buddha. "Gya chenpo" mean vast and having no center or edge. It must be seen for oneself. It is inexpressible, like a mute person eating molasses. The nature of mind cannot be expressed. "Gya chenpo" means it encompasses all phenomena of samsara and nirvana. There are infinite Buddhas and sentient beings. Even only considering this world system, the particles of dust in it are beyond count. All this is only mind.
The mind comes from emptiness and dissolves back to emptiness, like water freezing as ice and melting again. Having realised the meaning of mahamudra, one gains liberation from samsara. All phenomena are empty of self nature. Realising this, one does not grasp at them. One does not grasp at melting ice, realising it is nothing but water. All phenomena are empty of self nature abiding just like space. When one has realised the nature of mind, one will be liberated from samsara.
So she then asked Milarepa., "What appears in your mind?"
Milarepa used the analogy of the sun shining in a cloudless sky.
She then asked Milarepa, "When you meditate, what is the ultimate result?"
He replied that one sees that all phenomena of samsara are without intrinsic reality and one does not grasp to either samsara or nirvana. In that state of non-distraction, there is no reference point. The view is without hope and fear. The only wish is that all beings may attain Buddhahood. There is no fear of suffering, as all phenomena are seen as empty.
So he asks her, "Do you want this practice?"
She gave rise to devotion to Milarepa, and asked him to be her teacher.
Worldly beings are unaware of the faults of unvirtuous actions and ignorant of the benefits of virtuous actions. They see what leads to suffering as desirable and what leads to happiness as undesirable. This is a corrupt view. It is like a cloudy day when you cannot see the sun shine. Or a snowy winter when you cannot see the flowers in the meadow. Similarly, the mind is obscured and we cannot see it.
Nyama Paldarbum confessed her wrong doing and said, "As the result of wrong doing in previous lives, I was born as a girl who is no better than a servant. I have never given a thought to impermanence and death. So now I will prepare for death and become your disciple."
Milarepa replied, "I will teach you the dharma. But that is difficult. If praised, you become proud, and if criticised, you become angry.. But since you ask, I will teach you." So the message is do not spend so much time putting on make up and cleaning yourself. Instead, you should clean your mind. Milarepa said, do not turn your mind to samsaric friends, turn your mind to your teacher. Do not fixate on this life, caring for your body. Be generous with your possessions instead of being stingy. When you are young, it is hard to practice the dharma. The young are like beautiful peacocks. They are proud of their appearance and do not wish to practice. With this pride, love and compassion cannot arise. We need to apply an antidote to pride and this antidote is devotion. She replied, "Please do not scold me. I really want to practice the dharma, but never had the chance."
Milarepa replied, "You may not have time to practice, but will you have time to die? This life is very short compared to all your future lives. You must prepare for all your future lives. Do you know what you will eat then?" The preparation for all your future lives is generosity in this present life. Stinginess is your true enemy and you should eliminate it. Normally we think of only ourselves. As a result we will be reborn as a hungry ghost. So we need to practice generosity for our future lives.
In this life there is the light of the sun and the moon. But in the bardo there is none. Mediate on luminosity as a preparation for the bardo. Some people may think that they have nothing to give, but that is not right. If one has much, one should give that. But if one has nothing, one can give the protection of life and give the dharma by reciting "om mani padme hum." The prayer wheel I turn continuously is turning in prayers for all sentient beings. So one can always give.
When we go to the next life, we will take no company and no friends. Who will we take when we go to the bardo alone? When we do deity practice, the deity will accompany us in the bardo. Our obstructors will be those who are now dear to us. They create problems when we are alive and cannot help us when we are die. Of course, we should be kind to them. But only the yidam deity we have meditated on will accompany us in the bardo.
The meditation on the yidam deity benefits us in this life as well. I get many calls about people's problems. I always tell people to meditate on Tara. When the mind is suffering it is obscured by self grasping. At this time we need to visualise the yidam as clear as an image in the mirror. If we do this, our mind will become clear and pure. If you recite the mantra without love and compassion, there will be some benefit. But we should transform ourselves completely into the deity, including their love and compassion. If we do this there will be great benefit for this life as well as for future lives.
The future life seems very far away. How should we prepare for it? We should prepare ourselves for it with diligence. When we have a spare moment we should practice or visualise the deity. It is like a butter lamp. When the butter is exhausted it will not burn any more. If we practice, when our karma is exhausted we will not suffer, but go to the pure land. So we should ride the steed of diligence.
The enemy of diligence is laziness. Laziness harms us even in this life. If we do not practice today, what will we do tomorrow when we die?
After Milarepa spoke, she thought. She said, "I have not prepared at all for my next life. From now on I must commit myself to dharma practice."
Milarepa said, "If you practice you do not need to give up your family, but you need to meditate at all times. You do not need to go to mountain retreat. if you do this, you can stay with your family"
So she asked, "How should I meditate?"
Milarepa said, "Just let your mind rest and look at it, without center our boundary."
An analogy for the nature of mind is the sky. When one sees the mind as it is without boundary or center, one sees that it abides just like space. A second analogy is the the sun and moon. It can be obscured by afflictive emotions, like the sun and moon are hidden by clouds. But when we are mindful and aware, whatever afflictive emotion arises, it is eliminated in its own place. It is like seeing a beautiful flower. Without awareness, one wishes to buy it. With awareness one realises that it is just like an illusion. So the mind is like a sun., that is always illuminating, even though it my temporarily be hidden.
If the mind is the buddha, then why do we need to meditate? That is because we need to develop a state of clarity when we are always mindful and aware. If so, then when afflictive emotions arise they cannot harm us. There are four obscurations. The first is not seeing the mind as it is. As a result, afflictive emotions arise, then as a result of afflictive emotions, karmic actions arise. And these give rise to karmic imprints. These imprints give rise to our temporary body, which ceases when the karma is exhausted. So these are the four obscurations.
We always hear the root of sufferings is our afflictive emotions. But we do not know how to eliminate them. For that, we need to meditate. To realise the view, we need to habituate the mind to it. As beginning practitioners, the reason we cannot eliminate afflictive emotions is because our wisdom is small.. Primordial wisdom, or yeshe, is always there and this wisdom realises all things as they are. We do have this yeshe, but it is like a little flame. It does not have the strength to burn our afflictive emotions up. But as it grows stronger, it will have the strength to burn up our concepts and emotions. This is the meditation that Milarepa taught. Milarepa was known for dealing with all demons and obstacles. This is because as a result of his strong meditation he did not grasp at them as being real.
Milarepa explained how to place the mind in meditation with three analogies: the mind is like mountain, mind is like ocean, and mind is like space. The mountain cannot be shaken by wind. When the mind is like a mountain it will not be shaken by concepts. When the mind is like an ocean its depths are undisturbed even though there may be waves on the surface. The text gives another analogy: guard your mind like guarding a jewel from a thief. The last analogy is have no doubts questions that the mind is like this or that, just as space has no qualities.
Then Nyama Paldarbum was instructed on the seven fold posture of Vairochana. It is important that the spine be straight when you meditate, so that the channels and winds are straight. Then one will be able to move the winds into the central channel. There are also mind instructions that go with this instruction on physical posture. She meditated like this for a while but then she had questions. She used examples like brush on the mountain and stars around the moon. to represent the small concepts that arise in the meditation. So she asked Milarepa about this.
Milarepa said that when you meditate on mind as space, clouds will arise. But they will just vanish back into the sky. When you meditate on mind as mountain, do not grasp at the bushes. When you meditate the mind as ocean, the wave seem powerful, but they have the same nature as the ocean and disappear back into it. Similarly when a emotion arises, recognise its nature and it will disappear back into the mind. Sometimes emotions or feelings of bliss arise and they are very strong. When anger arises, do not speak in anger. Just recognise it and slowly it will get smaller. One day you will be able to liberate afflictive emotions as they arise.
Practicing in this way, the young woman, Nyama Paldarbum, did not go into mountain retreat or shave her head. She remained a householder and was able to attain the rainbow body. So we should study her story.
Another disciple of Milarepa was named Ngigum Repa. He got the name of repa because he was accomplished in tummo and only needed to wear a cotton cloth. He asked Milarepa how to train the mind. Mila replied, you have to look at the nature of the mind. Its essence is unelaborated like space, neither existing or not. Nothing need to be done with it, it simply abides. This is how I practice. Mind's essence is unelaborated like space. When one leaves it like it is one realises the nature of all phenomena. Things still arise but one does not grasp after them and realises that they cannot harm one. To realise all phenomena as empty is difficult. We must rely first on study and investigation and by reading scriptures. First one depends on the understanding of listening and one still has a sense of self and other, But when one looks at the nature of the mind, one realises it has no true existence. Then you realise that your grasping has no basis.
This is difficult to understand for beginners. When you say a person is empty of self nature, they will say you are stupid. But when you understand the nature of one person, you will understand the nature of all beings. When you ask if someone is a person, they will say yes. But when you ask if a corpse is a person, they will say no, the mind is the person. But when you investigate the mind, what is it? The Buddha says it is just like a dream. When we go to sleep we wake up and say the dream was not real. This present life exists just like a dream. After we die, when we wake up we will be in the bardo state. Then if one has understood that outer phenomena will all be destroyed because they are all compounded phenomena and are impermanent and that inner phenomena are also impermanent, the mind will become calm and be at ease. Scientists know that the outer phenomena will be destroyed. But the mind will never go out of existence. If one realises all phenomena are impermanent, one will have no grasping or fear. So Milarepa has taught that there is no difference between happiness and suffering. When one does not grasp at phenomena, the mind will remain clear and unstained. When one realises this, the wish to meditate also disappears. One's mind just remains as it is, abiding like space. One recognises the mind to be the mind of the buddha and one is beyond thoughts of practicing or not practicing. An example for all sentient beings being buddha is water. When it is used to wash clothing, it becomes dirty. But though it is dirty, it is still water. It can be filtered to make it pure again. Through practicing our mind can be purified and become the mind of Buddha again.
When someone says I am a not a Buddhist and do not need this teaching, explain to them that the Buddhist view is just that the Buddha is inherent in the mind of all sentient beings. If someone says I cannot attain enlightenment, that cannot be, because the cause is in the mind in all beings. Even all outer phenomena are Buddha because they are empty.

I finally finished the 2018 POPSUGAR Reading Challenge!
REFLECTIONS
I found out about this challenge in December 2017 and quickly decided I wanted to try it. I spent days coming up with books to read for each prompt, though I’m quite sure each one has changed multiple times over the year. I was half-way through my final year of university when I really properly started the challenge, so the first five months were spent reading assigned books and trying to fit them into a prompt. By the time I’d finished university this year, I’d read a lot of books but not many towards the list, so I had a lot of catching up to do. For the last three or so months of 2018, I pretty much solely read books that would fit my remaining prompts. I really enjoyed doing the challenge, it definitely pushed me to read things I may not have normally picked up before, but I also found it quite limiting and felt like I couldn’t read other books I really wanted to because I felt the pressure to finish before the year was up! I probably wouldn’t have felt like this if I didn’t have to do so much catch up in the second half of the year, but I don’t think I’d do a year-long challenge again!
Anyone else does the challenge this year? Or any other year-long challenge? I’d love to know how you got on with it!
STATS
5 STAR READS: 20 4 STAR READS: 10 3 STAR READS: 8 2 STAR READS: 2 1 STAR READS: 0
NON-FICTION: 7 FICTION: 33
That’s a lot of 5 star books and I’m not sure whether it means I’m too generous with my ratings or whether I’m just really good at picking books I know I’ll like... Also around half of these were interspersed between required reading whilst I was still at university, some of which I hated, so maybe I was rating relative to the terribleness of other books I’d forced myself through for class. I’ve really enjoyed reading non-fiction this year but it definitely wasn’t easy to fit many non-fic books into these prompts.

It’s Friday, I’m in love…
Heyyy. Yep. It’s Friday, again. How are you?
This week’s playlist is dedicated to my best friend. I mean, they all are. But this one is her flavor, nearly start to finish. There’s no weird jazz segment – only one, last song, and it’s true. No blues. Very little EDM or alt/indie rock. Just folks expressing themselves in a low-key way. (Even the Cardi B track is chill.) Light and easy, babe.
New stuff from Rosie Carney, Haley Heynderickx & Max Garcia Conover, Angelo De Augustine & Sufjan Stevens, The Darcys, Broken Social Scene, Stella Donnelly, Laura Stevenson, Lily & Madeleine, Wet, Cigarettes After Sex, Jealous of the Birds, Daisy the Great, Bad Bad Hats, Lola Kirke, Faye Webster, Hand Habits, COTE, Casey Dubie, Diedre & The Dark, Molly Burch, Better Oblivion Community Center, Dear Nora, Free Cake for Every Creature, Julia Bardo, Twist, Arlo Parks, Rose Elinor Dougal, Lost Under Heaven, Post Malone & Swae Lee, Ashe, Tove Styrke, Toro y Moi & Wet, Deerhunter, Lucy Dacus, and Mercury Rev & Phoebe Bridgers. Old stuff from Fleetwood Mac, Son Volt, (the) Led Zeppelin, The Spinanes, and The Moody Blues.
This one’s long, again, but finally mostly 2019.
The header image is by Steve Kim (@stvkmco on Ello). Thanks for that.
More soon.

Year-end book roundup. I mostly ignored my reading goal this year and missed my Goodreads goal of 24 books but still ended up with a pretty good list.
Books I finished reading in 2018:
Gulag: A History by Anne Applebaum
Started this last year; it took 3 checkouts & about two months for me to get through it (not a light read). Seemed like a good overview of the history. Maybe I should give The Gulag Archipelago a try.
$2.00 a Day: Living on Almost Nothing in America by Kathryn Edin, H. Luke Schaefer
Can’t remember why I checked this out; I may have read some op-ed by one of the authors. Discusses extreme poverty in the US, particularly with little access to cash, e.g. when available support from government or other organizations may only be in kind.
Binti: Home by Nnedi Okorafor
Second in the Binti series, solid followup to the first.
Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders
Liked the unusual structure. Sort of regret not consuming this in audiobook form, because there are so many different voices involved.
The Book of Joan by Lidia Yuknavitch
Easily the strangest book I read this year. (I think I mean that in a good way.) Might be worth a re-read.
Dear Madam President: An Open Letter to the Women Who Will Run the World by Jennifer Palmieri
The only thing I listened to as an audiobook this year, very short. I remembered hearing her on podcast during the 2016 election which was interesting then and maybe even more so in hindsight.
Sing, Unburied, Sing by Jesmyn Ward
A book where I felt like I was watching a movie. Only vaguely remember the story but still have images in my mind after 8 months.
Binti: The Night Masquerade by Nnedi Okorafor
The last one in the Binti series. Not as memorable for me as the first two.
How Everything Became War and the Military Became Everything: Tales from the Pentagon by Rosa Brooks
Stories and discussion about what it means when the US is constantly at war. Interesting anecdotes and insights.
In the Woods by Tana French
Character-driven and gloomy. The mysteries I read last year were more plotty so this was a nice change of pace.
A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry
Read after seeing the play for the first time. Remarkable how current it feels 60 years later.
The Likeness by Tana French
Read this because it featured one of my favorite characters from In the Woods. Enjoyed it but not really itching to pick up the next one in the series.
Circe by Madeline Miller
Mythological retelling from Circe’s point of view, a good read. The gods are generally jerks; humans, a mixed bag.
Red Famine: Stalin’s War on Ukraine by Anne Applebaum
Humans are terrible. (For some parts of the book I would not read more than a chapter per day because it would put me in such a negative mood.)
Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri
Finely observed short stories of ordinary lives.
The Legend of Korra: Turf Wars Part 3 by Michael Dante DiMartino
The only physical book I read this year. Was a bit underwhelmed.
American Street by Ibi Zoboi
Read this within a day. Don’t remember much except that I enjoyed it and wanted to read other things by the author.
The World Only Spins Forward: The Ascent of Angels in America by Isaac Butler and Dan Kois
Read after seeing the plays. Helped provide a lot of cultural/historical context, though I am not sure I can ever feel as strongly about AiA as pretty much everyone quoted in the book does.
The Refugees by Viet Thanh Nguyen
Another set of short stories. Compared to Interpreter of Maladies the stories feel looser and brighter (like the sun around 2:30 pm right now), but maybe I am just getting that vibe from the west coast vs. east coast settings of several of the stories.
The People in the Trees by Hanya Yanagihara
Was very surprised at how this was so readable even though the narrator is pretty much detestable from the start. Makes me want to read A Little Life.
Difficult Women by Roxane Gay
Third book of short stories this year. I had read a couple of her previous nonfiction books (Bad Feminist, Hunger) and recognized some of the elements in the stories from those, which occasionally gave me an odd feeling of intruding on someone’s life.
Darkness Visible: A Memoir of Madness by William Styron.
An account of the author’s depression. It was published almost 30 years ago and I gather it was pretty groundbreaking at the time. The only comparison I have is to the Hyperbole and a Half depression comics (part 1, part 2), except this is a lot more serious and writerly.
Books I tried and failed to read this year (read more than ten pages, fully intended to complete, did not finish):
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
Tried to read it at least twice, saw about a quarter of the movie on TV while traveling, wasn’t into the narrator’s voice or the 80s references.
Pride by Ibi Zoboi
Was on my list after reading American Street but I found I wasn’t really in a mood to read a retelling of Pride and Prejudice.
Spaceman of Bohemia by Jaroslav Kalfar
Premise seemed interesting but I got distracted by another book (I believe it was The World Only Spins Forward) and never got back to it.
A Frozen Heart by Elizabeth Rudnick
Started reading after seeing the Frozen stage musical. Novel set in the Frozen universe, targeted at an audience slightly older than that of the movie (”slightly older” meaning tweens, apparently). Don’t really care about Hans.
Angels in America by Tony Kushner
Started reading after seeing the plays in the hopes that things I missed on first viewing would be easier to pick up on in text. But 7+ hours of stage time is still a long script and I didn’t finish before my borrowing time was up.
Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi
Keep hearing how great it is but did not get very far before my checkout time was up. May try again this year.
Crazy Blood by T. Jefferson Parker
A thriller about competitive ski racers whose lives did not really interest me.
2666 by Roberto Bolaño
Vaguely remember something about literature professors with esoteric areas of interest. Was distracted by midterm elections.
Star Wars: From a Certain Point of View by A Lot of Authors
Collection of short stories set in the Star Wars universe. While I’m not a Star Wars superfan, I have seen most of the movies and liked the idea of established writers writing fanfiction. Lost steam after maybe the third or fourth cantina story.
How to Survive a Plague by David France
Pretty interesting and I think I should pick it up again sometime. Haven’t watched the documentary.

He was his father’s favorite
XV.
We embraced the boy at the door of his white stone home.
hans vollman
He gave us a shy smile, not untouched by trepidation at what was to come.
the reverend everly thomas
Go on, Mr. Bevins said gently. It is for the best.
hans vollman
Off you go, Mr. Vollman said. Nothing left for you here.
roger bevins iii
Goodbye then, the lad said.
Nothing scary about it, Mr. Bevins said. Perfectly natural.
hans vollman
Then it happened.
roger bevins iii
An extraordinary occurrence.
hans vollman
Unprecedented, really.
the reverend everly thomas
The boy’s gaze moved past us.
hans vollman
He seemed to catch sight of something beyond.
roger bevins iii
His face lit up with joy.
hans vollman
Father, he said.
the reverend everly thomas
XVI.
An exceedingly tall and unkempt fellow was making his way toward us through the darkness.
hans vollman
This was highly irregular. It was after hours; the front gate would be locked.
the reverend everly thomas
The boy had been delivered only that day. That is to say, the man had most likely been here—
roger bevins iii
Quite recently.
hans vollman
That afternoon.
roger bevins iii
Highly irregular.
the reverend everly thomas
The gentleman seemed lost. Several times he stopped, looked about, retraced his steps, reversed course.
hans vollman
He was softly sobbing.
roger bevins iii
He was not sobbing. My friend remembers incorrectly. He was winded. He did not sob.
hans vollman
He was softly sobbing, his sadness aggravated by his mounting frustration at being lost.
roger bevins iii
He moved stiffly, all elbows and knees.
the reverend everly thomas
Bursting out of the doorway, the lad took off running toward the man, look of joy on his face.
roger bevins iii
Which turned to consternation when the man failed to sweep him up in his arms as, one gathered, must have been their custom.
the reverend everly thomas
The boy instead passing through the man, as the man continued to walk toward the white stone home, sobbing.
roger bevins iii
He was not sobbing. He was very much under control and moved with great dignity and certainty of—
hans vollman
He was fifteen yards away now, headed directly toward us.
roger bevins iii
The Reverend suggested we yield the path.
hans vollman
The Reverend having strong feelings about the impropriety of allowing oneself to be passed through.
roger bevins iii
The man reached the white stone home and let himself in with a key, the lad then following him in.
hans vollman
Mr. Bevins, Mr. Vollman, and I, concerned for the boy’s welfare, moved into the doorway.
the reverend everly thomas
The man then did something—I do not quite know how to—
hans vollman
He was a large fellow. Quite strong, apparently. Strong enough to be able to slide the boy’s—
the reverend everly thomas
Sick-box.
hans vollman
The man slid the box out of the slot in the wall, and set it down upon the floor.
roger bevins iii
And opened it.
hans vollman
Kneeling before the box, the man looked down upon that which—
the reverend everly thomas
He looked down upon the lad’s supine form in the sick-box.
hans vollman
Yes.
the reverend everly thomas
At which point, he sobbed.
hans vollman
He had been sobbing all along.
roger bevins iii
He emitted a single, heartrending sob.
hans vollman
Or gasp. I heard it as more of a gasp. A gasp of recognition.
the reverend everly thomas
Of recollection.
hans vollman
Of suddenly remembering what had been lost.
the reverend everly thomas
And touched the face and hair fondly.
hans vollman
As no doubt he had many times done when the boy was—
roger bevins iii
Less sick.
hans vollman
A gasp of recognition, as if to say: Here he is again, my child, just as he was. I have found him again, he who was so dear to me.
the reverend everly thomas
Who was still so dear.
hans vollman
Yes.
roger bevins iii
The loss having been quite recent.
the reverend everly thomas
XVII.
Willie Lincoln was wasting away.
Epstein, op. cit.
The days dragged wearily by, and he grew weaker and more shadow-like.
Keckley, op. cit.
Lincoln’s secretary, William Stoddard, recalled the question on everyone’s lips: “Is there no hope? Not any. So the doctors say.”
In “Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln,” by Doris Kearns Goodwin.
At about 5 o’clock this afternoon, I was lying half asleep on the sofa in my office, when his entrance aroused me. “Well, Nicolay,” said he choking with emotion, “my boy is gone—he is actually gone!” and bursting into tears, turned and went into his own office.
In “With Lincoln in the White House,” by John G. Nicolay, edited by Michael Burlingame.
The death was only moments ago. The body lay upon the bed, the coverlet thrown back. He wore the pale blue pajamas. His arms lay at his sides. The cheeks were still enflamed. Three pillows lay in a heap on the floor. The small side table was askew, as if roughly pushed aside.
In “Eyewitness to History: The Lincoln White House,” edited by Stone Hilyard, account of Sophie Lenox, maid.
I assisted in washing him and dressing him, and then laid him on the bed, when Mr. Lincoln came in. I never saw a man so bowed down with grief. He came to the bed, lifted the cover from the face of his child, gazed at it long and lovingly, and earnestly, murmuring, “My poor boy, he was too good for this earth. God has called him home. I know that he is much better off in heaven, but then we loved him so. It is hard, hard to have him die!”
Keckley, op. cit.
He was his father’s favorite. They were intimates—often seen hand in hand.
Keckley, op. cit., account of Nathaniel Parker Willis.
He was his father over again both in magnetic personality and in all his gifts and tastes.
In “Lincoln’s Sons,” by Ruth Painter Randall.
He was the child in whom Lincoln had invested his fondest hopes; a small mirror of himself, as it were, to whom he could speak frankly, openly, and confidingly.
In “Reckoning: An Insider’s Memories of Difficult Times,” by Tyron Philian.
Will was the true picture of Mr. Lincoln, in every way, even to carrying his head slightly inclined toward his left shoulder.
Burlingame, op. cit., account of a Springfield neighbor.
One feels such love for the little ones, such anticipation that all that is lovely in life will be known by them, such fondness for that set of attributes manifested uniquely in each: mannerisms of bravado, of vulnerability, habits of speech and mispronouncement and so forth; the smell of the hair and head, the feel of the tiny hand in yours—and then the little one is gone! Taken! One is thunderstruck that such a brutal violation has occurred in what had previously seemed a benevolent world. From nothingness, there arose great love; now, its source nullified, that love, searching and sick, converts to the most abysmal suffering imaginable.
In “Essay Upon the Loss of a Child,” by Mrs. Rose Milland.
“This is the hardest trial of my life,” he confessed to the nurse, and in a spirit of rebellion this man, overweighted with care and sorrows, cried out: “Why is it? Why is it?”
In “Abraham Lincoln: The Boy and the Man,” by James Morgan.
Great sobs choked his utterance. He buried his head in his hands, and his tall frame was convulsed with emotion. I stood at the foot of the bed, my eyes full of tears, looking at the man in silent, awe-stricken wonder. His grief unnerved him, and made him a weak, passive child. I did not dream that his rugged nature could be so moved. I shall never forget those solemn moments—genius and greatness weeping over love’s lost idol.
Keckley, op. cit.
George Saunders, Lincoln in the Bardo, 2017.

CALLING THE GURU FROM AFAR
A Supplication to Pierce Your Heart with Devotion
Namo Guruve. This style of supplication called Calling the Guru from Afar is known by everyone. Nevertheless, the key point for invoking the guru’s blessing is devotion inspired by disenchantment and renunciation, not as mere platitude but from the core of your heart, from the very marrow of your bones. Chant the song melodiously with the confidence of having resolved that your own guru is none other than the Awakened One.
Guru, think of me. Kind root guru, think of me. Essence of the buddhas of the three times, Source of the sublime Dharma of statements and realization, Sovereign of the sangha, the assembly of noble ones, Root guru think of me.
Great treasure of blessings and compassion, Source of the two siddhis, Enlightened activity that grants all wishes, Root guru think of me.

Masters of the four great and eight lesser Kagyu lineages, think of me. Regard me from the buddhafield of pure personal experience. Having dissolved the confusion of the four states, Lead me to the end of experience and realization.
Five Sakya forefathers, think of me. Regard me from the expanse of samsara and nirvana indivisible. Combining the pure view, meditation and conduct, Lead me along the supreme path of secrets.
Unequalled masters of the Shangpa Kagyu, think of me. Regard me from the buddha realm of total purity. By properly practicing means and liberation, Enable me to discover the unity beyond learning.

Son of the victorious one, Lodro Thaye, think of me. Regard me from the expanse of loving-kindness and compassion. Knowing all beings to be my kind parents, May I acquire a pure, altruistic heart.
Pema Gargyi Wangchuk, think of me. Regard me from the basic space of luminous great bliss. Having liberated the five poisons into the five wisdoms, May I destroy the duality of loss and gain.
Tennyi Yungdrung Lingpa, think of me. Regard me from the basic space in which existence and peace are equal. Genuine devotion having grown in my mind, May the great realization and liberation be simultaneous.
Bokar, mighty Vajradhara, think of me. Regard me from the supreme realm of Akanishtha. Having realized all apparent phenomena as Mahamudra, May I attain non-meditation, the dharmakaya. 1
Kind root guru, think of me. Regard me from the crown of my head, the abode of great bliss. Having met dharmakaya, natural awareness, face to face, May I accomplish buddhahood in a single lifetime.
Alas! Sentient beings like me, with negative karma and evil deeds, Have wandered in samsara from beginningless time. I continue to experience endless suffering, But I never feel even the briefest moment of regret. Guru think of me, regard me with compassion. Bless me that renunciation may arise from the depths of my heart.
Though having attained the freedoms and riches I squander my life, Always preoccupied by the pointless affairs of this world. When applying myself to the great pursuit of liberation, I am overcome by laziness. As I return from the island of jewels empty-handed, Guru think of me, regard me with compassion. Bless me that my human life may become meaningful.
Not a single life on earth escapes death, Even now, they pass away one after the other. Soon, I too must die. I am a fool, thinking I will remain forever. Guru think of me, regard me with compassion. Bless me so that with no time to waste, I will curtail my plans.
I will be separated from each of my loved ones. All the valuables I have hoarded will be enjoyed by others. Even this body I hold so dear will be left behind, And, within the bardo, my consciousness will wander aimlessly throughout samsara. Guru think of me, regard me with compassion. Bless me that I may realize the futility of it all.
The black darkness of fear confronts me. The fierce gale of karma pursues me. The lord of death's hideous thugs club and beat me. Having to endure the unbearable sufferings of negative rebirths; Guru think of me, regard me with compassion. Bless me that I may be liberated from the abyss of the lower realms.
Though my faults are as great as a mountain I keep them to myself. Though others' faults are as small as a sesame seed I proclaim them far and wide. Though I lack the least of qualities, I boast about how great I am. I call myself a Dharma practitioner but behave to the contrary. Guru think of me, regard me with compassion. Bless me to pacify my selfish pride
Within, I conceal my nemesis - the demon of ego-clinging. All my thoughts only cause disturbing emotions to increase. All my actions result in nonvirtue. As I have not so much as turned towards the path of liberation, Guru think of me, regard me with compassion. Bless me that self-grasping be severed at the root.
With a little praise or blame comes that much joy or sorrow. With a few harsh words I let down my armor of patience. Although I see the afflicted, I feel no compassion. When I have the chance to be generousam bound by the knot of greed. Guru think of me, regard me with compassion. Bless me to mingle my mind with the Dharma.
Though insubstantial, I ascribe substance to samsara. For the sake of food and clothing I abandon what has lasting value. Although I have all that is needed, I crave for more and more. I deceive myself with unreal, illusory phenomena. Guru think of me, regard me with compassion. Bless me to abandon any interest in such a life as this.
Unable to bear the slightest physical or mental pain, With jaded heart, I don't hesitate to take inferior rebirths. Even though I directly perceive that cause and effect are unfailing, Instead of doing what is right, I only perpetuate harm. Guru think of me, regard me with compassion. Bless me that I gain conviction in the law of karma.
I hate my enemies and cling to my friends. Groping in dark delusion as to what to accept and reject, When practicing the Dharma, I fall prey to dullness and sleep. When involved in non-Dharma, my senses are clear and sharp. Guru think of me, regard me with compassion. Bless me that I destroy my enemy - disturbing emotions.
On the surface, I appear to be a pure practitioner; While inwardly my mind isn't mingled with the Dharma. Like a viper I hide my disturbing emotions within, But faced with trouble, my faults are exposed. Guru think of me, regard me with compassion. Bless me that I may tame my own mind.
Failing to notice my own shortcomings, Pretending to be spiritual, I am anything but. Naturally skilled in negative emotions and karma, Again and again good intentions arise, again and again they come to naught. Guru think of me, regard me with compassion. Bless me that I might see my own faults.
As each day passes, death approaches ever nearer. As each day passes, my heart becomes ever more callused. While following a teacher my devotion gradually fades, And my love and pure perception towards my Dharma friends diminish. Guru think of me, regard me with compassion. Bless me to tame my savage mind.
I take refuge, engender bodhichitta, and supplicate, But devotion and compassion are not felt deep within my heart These Dharma activities are mere lip service. I only go through the motions and am left untouched. Guru think of me, regard me with compassion. Bless me that whatever I do may lead to Dharma.
All suffering arises from wanting my own happiness. Although it is said that buddhahood is accomplished by wanting to help others, Though I engender bodhichitta, secretly my aims are selfish. On top of not benefiting others, I harm them. Guru think of me, regard me with compassion. Bless me that I am able to put myself in others' place.
Although my guru is the Buddha actually manifest, I think of him as simply human. I forget his kindness in imparting the profound instructions. If he doesn't give me what I want, I lose faith. I obscure myself by seeing his behavior through doubts and disdain. Guru think of me, regard me with compassion. Bless me that my devotion may not fade but grow.
Although my mind is the Buddha, I don't recognize it. Although my thinking is dharmakaya, I don't realize it. Although nonfabrication is the innate, I fail to sustain it. Although naturalness is the basic state, I am not convinced. Guru think of me, regard me with compassion. Bless me that natural awareness is liberated into itself.
Although death is sure to come, I am unable to take it to heart. Although applying the genuine Dharma is sure to help, I am unable to practice it. Although the law of karma is certainly true, I don't discriminate correctly. Although mindfulness is surely needed, I don't apply it and am carried away by distraction. Guru think of me, regard me with compassion. Bless me that I maintain undistracted mindfulness.
Through previous bad karma I was born at the end of this dark age. All I have done only results in suffering. The bad influence of others has cast its shadow upon me. My practice of virtue is overcome by the distractions of meaningless talk. Guru think of me, regard me with compassion. Bless me to be able to persevere in Dharma practice.
At first, I thought of nothing but the Dharma. But in the end, the results of my actions only cause further samsara and the lower realms. The harvest of liberation is ravaged by the frost of nonvirtue. Like a savage, I destroy what is of lasting value. Guru think of me, regard me with compassion. Bless me that I may perfect the sublime Dharma.
Bless me that disenchantment is felt from the bottom of my heart. Bless me that without wasting time I curtail my plans. Bless me that I take death to heart. Bless me that I feel conviction in the law of karma.
Bless me that the path is free of obstacles. Bless me that I am able to practice diligently. Bless me that difficulties are utilized as the path. Bless me that I may be steadfast in using the remedies.
Bless me that I feel genuine devotion. Bless me that I may come face to face with the natural state. Bless me that natural awareness is awakened within my heart. Bless me that confused experience is severed at the root. Bless me that I may accomplish buddhahood in a single lifetime.
Precious guru I supplicate you, Kind Dharma lord, I cry out with longing, Unfortunate though I am, my one hope is you. Bless me that we mingle our minds indivisibly.
Although several devoted practitioners have encouraged me to write something like this for a long time, I neglected to do so. Recently, at the request of both Samdrup Dronma, a noble female practitioner, and Deva Rakshita, this was written by Lodro Thaye, someone who merely maintains the image of a dark age lama, at the great practice center of Dzongsho Deshek Dupa. May virtuous goodness increase!

Lama Kyeno, on my life I am honest that Garchen Rinpoche been becoming my spiritual father. I prefer not sleep or eat than miss his teaching. His advice he teach me it's constant work that I do.
When we talk about the Lama find the teache4 that gonna to tame your mind and point the way of enlightenment is hard.
It could take many years before we find one, it's all depends on our karma, Garchen Rinpoche advice when we are in search we should take refuge on first center we can have to start our path.
“ long ago my path start exactly like that I found Lama Teunsang felt he will teach me well , In my path Lama Teunsang and Garchen Rinpoche are really important for me.
How do we find our lama, first we don't need to see if is Rinpoche or not sincerely we can be surprised by any lama. What we need to see is do his teacher resonates with us ?
“ Garchen Rinpoche and I think the same we are Milarepa students, we follow Rime and many others things like Tara have massive importance for Garchen Rinpoche as well for my own path"
What we need to see that like the Buddha say do the teaching means something from us ? Do that make sense, do that turn our mind to Dharma “ compassion and wisdom “
If that do all this yes that our lama.
What to avoid ? Sadly our world isn't safe “ when I went to India I saw the real sddhidhas and the one who dance with the cobra for rupees" today in our world we got also fake Lamas.
“ three weeks ago I received a email from maitreya jesus christ and when I dig to get to his holy teaching we pay high price “
“ when on the other side Garchen Rinpoche gave his teaching for free and ask for donations, when I personally met him my financial situation was close to disaster yet he never made me pay"
Like in India there's fake gurus and they used faith to make there bank a 6 figures wage.
But Dharma is far from that, the lama is responsible for empowerments and teaching, personal advice on our spiritual path .
Having one Lama or many Lamas well same story it’s how they tame our mind, some of us got one sone got many.
For conclude find a lama on our paty is the most important part of it from this came all our teachings.CALLING THE GURU FROM AFAR
A Supplication to Pierce Your Heart with Devotion
